CCS and Workflow - "Better Together"

CCS is a suite of technologies for determining your IT risk and compliance; Workflow is a process framework that enables you to automate and streamline your processes.  When you combine these two technologies, you have a comprehensive solution for IT risk and compliance management.

There are a number of use cases for CCS and Workflow.  The following sections cover each use case and provide Workflow projects that will help you get started.  Click on a use case below and it will expand and show you the details for the use case.

Asset Import & Scan

Would you like to provide a simple process that enables system administrators to add new assets and scan them for compliance before adding them to your network?

The Asset Import & Scan project allows you to leverage the CCS asset import and compliance scanning features without having to use the CCS console.  This is very useful if you want to provide your system administrators with a simple interface that allows them to quickly add an asset, have it scanned with your companies standards, and get the results emailed back with links that explain how to fix any compliance failures identified by the scan.

Installation/Configuration Instructions

Step 1: Download the Workflow Project - Click Here

Step 2:  Verify that you have your Workflow Designer set to use IIS and Sticky Debug URLs is turned on.  This is critical if you want to run this process in your Debugger/Simulator.  If you don't adjust these settings, you'll have to change the URL configurations every time you test your project.

Step 3:  Open the Workflow project and set the project properties.

Step 4:  Run the project in the simulator/debugger.

Step 5:  Once you've verified that you have connectivity with CCS and that the process works as expected, make changes to the process to accommodate your companies process requirements, test, then deploy.

Policy Approvals

Work in progress.

This project will provide an example of using the CCS Policy components to create a more comprehensive approval and publishing process for CCS Policies.

Send RAM Questionnaire/Quiz

Work in progress.

This project will provide an example of using the CCS RAM components to dynamically send RAM

Questionnaires and Quizzes based on compliance failures or input from another system; Symantec Data Loss Prevention (DLP)

Subscribe to Evaluation Results

It's critical to act upon compliance failures as quickly as possible.  This example shows you how Workflow can be configured to AUTOMATICALLY start whenever a CCS Evaluation Job completes.  This empowers you to create processes that proactively start and execute the appropriate steps to remediate compliance failures.

Step 4:  Configure the "Subscribe To Job" component to monitor a particular job.

Step 5:  Run the subscription method via the debugger/simulator; make sure it's pointed to the correct URL for your Workflow project.

Step 6:  Put the Workflow in debugger/simulator mode.

Step 7:  Run the CCS job.

Step 8:  Verify that the Workflow is starting when the job completes.

Step 9:  That's it; CCS and Workflow are connected.  Now you can add decision components and form components that provide the remediation steps for your process.
